The Weakest SuperheroFriction Empathy & The 5-Year Plan Dread

Sophia · Hong Kong

I am that Weakest Hero

  • I run a social club, and crowds exhaust me.
  • I teach yoga, and I’m not sporty.
  • I’m building this website, and I can’t write a line of code.

I’m not naturally good at so many things. I just found my own way in.

Let’s embrace the flaw
A collage: a woman in a sun hat looks up at a burst of things above her, among them a globe, bubble tea, dim sum, a laptop, headphones, luggage tags and a compass

Why this blog exists

The people who are best at things are usually the worst at explaining them

I learned sports, finance and technology from scratch as an adult, late and badly. So I know exactly where beginners get stuck — and I write about the friction, and the way around it.

The Stories

Three books, one still being written

Written in Chinese, mostly years before I understood what they were about.

All three books

The Journey

What I’m working out right now, while I’m still bad at it

Five things I’m learning in public. This is the half of the blog that keeps growing.

What I build

Small rooms for people who find the big ones difficult

Wondering Wanderer

A playground for grown-ups. We play, we connect, and nobody wears their boss hat.

Wellness Wonder

Fitness for people who get intimidated by fitness. Small, slow, nobody’s a natural.

Teaching design

How to find the right problem before you start drawing.

@love.in.hongkong

Hong Kong on foot, with the logistics already solved.

A note on language

I grew up in the south of Taiwan and have lived outside Taiwan for more than twenty years. I write here in English, but my books are in Chinese and English versions will take a while — I’d rather do them properly than quickly. Machine translation will get you the plot, but several characters are named with homophone wordplay, so their names come out strange. That part really is lost in translation.
